This public art is housed inside the transit station at the mezzanine level. My previous collaborator, Marybeth Mungovan, worked with me to create this 68 foot lenticular mural. Under the supervision of the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority(MBTA) we completed this permanent $90,000 dollar public art project under two years.
Concept: Our reaction to this newly constructed Transit Station was how colorless and cold it was. Stainless steal and concrete dominate this station and naturally color and warmth would be invited by the commuters passing this artwork during there work week. We used goldfish as our subject matter to bring an organic element into the environment. These goldfish also translated well with the mission of the MBTA waterfront expansion projects. The technology used to make the goldfish “move” is the lenticular panel. The total number of pictures that make up the entire movement of the fish is approximately 360 images. As commuters come in and out of the station they pass the mural activating the artwork with there own walking movements.
